Hi Matt. I have a T Bucket that I use off-road. (paved road that is) I have a receiver in the front and in the back, and a 5,000 winch. I use 150 amp quick disconnect on each end of my T Bucket to supply power to my winch. They make higher amperage connects. They use them on fork lifts, so they will handle 300 amps or more. I can pull from either end of my T Bucket. It takes 5 seconds to hook them together. Since you pull with your jerk straps from the front sometimes, that might be a better way to go than permanently mounting your winch. You could also run power wires to the rear of your rig so that you could hook your winch up on either end. It works very well for me.

Great recovery footage everyone works so well together ( at least in the edited version ) something to remember Ford and Toyota are the most American made trucks in the USA . A little over 85% of all the parts on both are US made no other truck manufacturers can say that .

I agree with Lizzy. Modern vehicles have so many nanny systems that when you really need it to do things there always seems to be something stopping you. Even my 1968 Ford Tractor had a "safety" that required you to have it out of gear to start. Well, when I needed to use just the starter motor to move it a couple yards out of the way, that was the end of that. Sure, starting in gear is a hazard, but there are times...

Years ago I lost my drivers license and was forced to walk to get around. People are like horses in that the tend to steer where there eyes are focused. It got pretty scary sometimes walking on the shoulder of the road.

Don't need to permanently install a winch, just a set of quick-disconnect power cables for the hitch winch. For front AND rear.

She's right: Current Tacoma ergonomics suck. The roof-line is too low into the driver's vision, the hood is too high by about 6", too long by nearly 12", and the dash is too high. The interior roof is too low, there's no height adjustment on the driver seat, and the steering wheel only telescopes and pivots about 2". If you are shorter than 5'6", or taller than 5'9", they're hell to drive off-road.

my 2020 does have a seat height adjustment, it is a thing but only for 2020 +. Im 6'2 and barely fit. Had I literally be any taller id be SOL.

It's counterintuitive because you want to get back on the road as fast as possible but cranking the front wheels all the way left makes it a lot harder to get out because they're almost like anchors for the rears. If you back off some there's much less rolling resistance when both sets are pointing in roughly similar directions.

I like your winch setup. So much more versatile than having it hard mounted since you use this rig for so many situations. Maybe a quick battery connects disconnect plugs would make this better. setup

Matt, since you pull your share of Toyotas out it might be useful to know how their A-TRAC system works as it would have helped here. It's an ABS based traction control system that applies brakes to the tires that are spinning to transfer power through the open diffs to the tires with grip. The problem is, A-TRAC needs a little time to detect which tires are spinning and which aren't so it knows where to direct the power, and that means you have to stay on the gas for a few more seconds for it to do its thing. If you see the tires spinning and then quickly get off the gas or hit the brakes (as I saw in this vid) it'll never activate, and thus do nothing at all. The best thing to do is just keep medium throttle and wait for it do its thing. When it's working correctly it will pull the vehicle up a steep hill in 4 low even with two tires off the ground.
