no chains, no recovery tracks, no differential locks, no winching (often better than momentumpullingdigging the tracktor deeper) But why learning from arctic-dwellers when brute forcing through life is so much more fun than brains ... while it works :) The best thing in this situation is to have good company. At least you can still have fun during the failing. We all fail, thats fine.. as long learning is attached to it. Now, imagine youre alone out of cell phone range and your car is stuck ... you would start to feel a little more desperation. You would make a fire to keep the fingers going, and then mount the snow chains :-) Seriously, my lawn mower has snow chains - and just two wheel drive and pulls better through snow than all those big manly jeeps and rams....

I have such respect for people who willingly show how not to do something, even though as an ignoramus myself I wouldn't have done such. But, communication is the key, at it was obviously difficult to coordinate in these conditions... but that's when it matters most.

This is one of the best videos you have made because it shows the viewers just how bad things can get in a blizzard. Imagine how much worse it could get if the temperature went down to -25 and you had no way to call for a rescue. Been there, done that. Super video.

As an Alaskan with a whole lifetime of wheeling in snow. When someone needs a recovery in winter conditions the single most important piece of gear you can have is a full set of tire chains.

First mistake was listening to the customer and trashing "The original plan." If the customer insists on helping before you start, you know there is trouble brewing on the horizon.

As someone who has been stuck in the snow in the mountains I understand the thought process involved in keeping going. You tell yourself it can't get any worse and soon it will start getting better. The reality is the higher you go the worse it gets. If it is marginal where you are and you know you have to go higher to get through there is a good chance you aren't going to get through. I once attempted to dig a Ford Explorer out with a tire iron. I didn't have anything else. It took way too much time and there were moments when I thought we weren't going to get out. Eventually a guy with an irrigating shovel (just a small spade) showed up and that's all we needed to get the thing moving again. My wife and I still laugh about it saying, "Well, at least we're not wet!" I spent a lot of time laying in the snow getting soaking wet, thus the joke.

And STILL no winch use, no tire chains either.... Seems like Half Ass "recovery" to me .... I would just use my WINCH .. for myself or others ... and put chains on in the snow.....
